Astrantia major ‘Moulin Rouge’ is a striking perennial valued for its deep wine-red pincushion flowers, held above finely divided, mid-green foliage. Flowering from late spring into summer, with repeat blooms if cut back, it adds rich colour and texture to borders and naturalistic planting schemes. Unlike many astrantias, ‘Moulin Rouge’ holds its dark colouring well, even in brighter conditions. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade and is fully hardy. Attractive to pollinators, it also makes an excellent long-lasting cut flower.
Perennials thrives in full sun—around six hours a day. While it can tolerate light shade, you’ll get the best flowering in bright, open spots.
