Plant information
Salvia splendens ‘Amore Purple’ is a compact, dwarf annual variety that stands out for it’s bold plum colour. Great variety from the splendens collection due to it’s extensive bloom period and repeat flowering. It features aromatic, oval-shaped green leaves that provide a rich, textured backdrop to its vibrant, dense spikes of tubular deep plum coloured flowers, which bloom profusely throughout the growing season. This variety flourishes in full sun, making it an ideal choice for sunny borders, patios, and a variety of garden settings.
This variety is magnet for pollinators. It has been noted how the blooms attract bees, making it the perfect option for those wanting to add to a pollinator garden. Perfectly suited for pots and containers, where their beautiful colouring and graceful growing habit can be fully appreciated. Whether placed on a patio or nestled within borders they are excellent performers, it is sure to stand out and become a striking highlight in any garden setting.
Salvia ‘Amore Purple’ makes a bold statement in any garden, whether planted in clusters for a dramatic display or as a striking solitary specimen. Its dense clusters of robust flower heads, paired with dark foliage, create a visually stunning focal point that complements and enhances any garden setting. This striking combination brings colour and dynamic texture to your outdoor space.
Over an extended flowering period, they produce an abundance of long-lasting flower spikes that add striking beauty to both fresh and dried flower arrangements. The blooms continue to flourish until the first frost, offering vibrant colour and texture well into the cooler months.
Sow seeds from March to April in pots or seedling trays, spreading them evenly on the surface of moist compost, a light sprinkle of soil is all that’s needed to gently cover the seeds. Once your seeds are sown, place the pots or trays in a warm, controlled environment such as a greenhouse or propagator, maintaining a consistent temperature between 22-24°C. This warm, humid environment will encourage the seeds to germinate. Seedlings typically take 14-21 days to appear. During this time, monitor the compost to keep it moist, but avoid overwatering, which can cause the seeds to rot.
Once your seedlings are established, transplant them into larger pots to accommodate their growth. Gradually acclimate them to cooler conditions by hardening them off over 7-10 days, allowing the plants to adjust to outdoor conditions. Before planting them outside, ensure the soil is sandy, well-drained, and the site receives full sun.
