Plant information

Salvia x superba ‘Merleau White’ is a clump-forming, upright perennial. This variety features beautiful, white double lipped flowers that create a delicate yet striking blossom display, adding both texture and vibrant colour to the landscape. One of the standout features of ‘Merleau White’ is it’s unique narrowly ovate, hairy, mid-to-dark green leaves, making it an ideal choice for gardeners eager to showcase something a little bit different within their space. Whether planted in borders, containers, or mass plantings, Salvia ‘Marleau White’ offers both beauty and performance, drawing attention with its striking continuous floral display.

The elegant white flowers are perfectly suited for pots and containers, where their bright hue and graceful growing habit can be fully appreciated. Whether placed on a patio or nestled within borders, it is sure to stand out and become a striking highlight in any garden setting. Well suited for cottage, traditional gardens and modern designs.

Whether planted in clusters for a dramatic effect or as a striking focal point, Salvia x superba ‘Marleau White’ makes a bold statement in any garden. Its blooms are sure to captivate and inspire, bringing a burst of brightness to your outdoor space.

Over an extended flowering period from June to September, they produce an abundance of compact, long-lasting flower spikes that add striking beauty to both fresh and dried flower arrangements.

Sow seeds from March to April in pots or seedling trays, spreading them evenly on the surface of moist compost, a light sprinkle of soil is all that’s needed to gently cover the seeds. Once your seeds are sown, place the pots or trays in a warm, controlled environment such as a greenhouse or propagator, maintaining a consistent temperature between 20-24°C. This warm, humid environment will encourage the seeds to germinate. Seedlings typically take 15-21 days to appear. During this time, monitor the compost to keep it moist, but avoid overwatering, which can cause the seeds to rot.

Once your seedlings are established, transplant them into larger pots to accommodate their growth. From end of May gradually acclimate them to cooler conditions by hardening them off over 7-10 days, allowing the plants to adjust to outdoor conditions. Before planting them outside, ensure the soil is sandy, well-drained and in planted in full sun. Pinch back the growing tip to encourage a fuller, bushier growth. Avoid pruning old stems until new growth begins to appear in the spring. The best time to divide perennial Salvias is early spring, before new growth starts to emerge.
